Thanks for the reply.

Now Iam able to access the Portlet Session attributes in the Freemarker 
template files. 

after lot of trial and error I found out that we need to keep the Portlet 
Session attributes in the Application scope to access them in the template 
files. You cant access the session attributes if they are present in the 
Portlet Scope.
