I'm developing a Web 2.0 application and I'd like to give people the
ability to upload templates for particular web pages. Blogspot
provides this sort of customization. It uses a special XML template
language.

I'd like to use Freemarker. I've not looked at it thoroughly, but it
appears to only permit you to use objects that have been exposed to
it's context.

I'm wondering if Freemarker can call arbitrary static functions or
create arbitrary objects. Or maybe, has anyone tried to run
Freemarker in a sandbox?
