IMO it's not a big problem that it's in Scala (especially as so far I
had positive impressions about Scala and its community), however to be
part of the FreeMarker source code it would be preferable if someone
is willing and able to maintain it.

To be added to the PoweredBy page it should be ready for production
purposes, including it should be reasonably settled as far as backward
compatibility is concerned. Looking at the version number I'm not sure
if it's at that state yet. Is it? If not yet, report when it is, and
it will be added.
