There is no much difference technically... it's just that we have found that most users prefer [], because it stands out better among the XML/HTML tags. But use whichever you like, even with 2.3.x. (In 2.3.x either you have to turn on syntax auto-detection (that's the default mode in 2.4) in the configuration, or start the file with [#ftl], or else [] won't work.) > Optionnaly : when the new freemarker version ? 2.4, you mean.
