Thanks for saving me from <jsp:tagHell><% andScripletInsanity() Well, it's hard to say whose "child" it is in its today's form. FreeMarker 1 was written by Benjamin Geer and Mike Bayer. Some additional significant work on it was made by Nicholas Cull, Jonathan Revusky, and myself. FreeMarker 2 was undertaken by Jonathan Revusky as a (mostly) API compatible rewrite with lots of improvements - i.e. JavaCC-generated parser, and myself and Daniel joined in early on; I wrote various integration (beans, servlet, JSP, Rhino, etc.) packages; Stephan Müller provides hosting for the website, a Bamboo instance for our testing, and so on. Daniel in general has been a stern design critic without whom we would've made many more bad design decisions. There's a loose group of minor contributors too; people who come to scratch an itch and then leave. As all the best open source projects, FreeMarker too is a bit of a "stone soup" <http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Stone_soup> really. Yeah, the project is quite silent nowadays, but that can change at anytime if someone with fresh interest starts seriously contributing things.
