just one more situation that came up where a "clear-location-bar" like feature
would be useful:

I find in a web page a term I want more information on, and want to enter it
into an edit box on a site like google or packages.debian.org or something like
that (I know google box thing already exists, but for general case there is no
such thing of course).  So I highlight the term, and then want to go to
google.com or packages.debian.org or whatever, so I need to clear the location
bar using the button (or whatever functionality is implemented in its place),
or click on the location bar and use the keyboard to manually clear out the
current URL.  with the button, I can do this without touching the keyboard :)
