I had an identical problem running galeon2 (except on SuSE, not RedHat).  It
was a conflict with libXft, which was fixed by doing an
LD_PRELOAD=libXft2.so and by clearing the GDK_USE_XFT environment variable.
I found that setting GDK_USE_XFT=1 crashed both mozilla w/gtk2 and galeon2,
while other gtk2 apps work fine with that variable set.
