Perhaps because you're used to tab-completion in shell? Automatically showing the dropdown is mostly distracting, you can still easily get the autocompletion _when_ you want it. But I just realized there's also a problem. Using the tab for autocompletion breaks accessibility which needs the tab to advance from one widget to the next... :-/ I wouldn't want to change the tab for anything else, it's the most familiar (and common?) key for autocompletion.
