So, in other words, it's better to force people to conform to a
behaviour they don't like than to offer them a choice? Does a visible
pref really "force" people to decide what they like. If so, is this a
bad thing? Are people so damn stupid that they can't be expected to
decide anything by themselves. Why are we operating from a mindset that
says that says people are worse off when given choices?

Anyway, if we're going to go with inadequate and unstatisfying defaults,
we can leave things exactly the way they are; at least then someone (me)
will be happy with it.

Frankly, I'm rather surprised how much traffic this has generated. All I
wanted to do was change the default behaviour to something more
practical, now this has to go on the top 10?
