If I get your reasoning, it is "I don't like the default for this pref
so let's change it. Half of the people using galeon were never annoyed
by it, and the other half like the current default, but I don't like it
so I'll change it, anyway all these people contributing to galeon are
only working on it so that I get a webbrowser which exactly fits my
needs".
You say a pref is absolutely needed. From the discussion there, I don't
feel that half galeon users hate the window popping up, and the other
half love it. I just feel that YOU absolutely don't want that window,
and for reasons I can't really grasp, you can't make this one time
change in gconf, but instead want a pref (why ? I don't really get it)
A pref for that would mean we need to find a good place for it in the
pref dialog, it would also mean that when you look for a specific pref,
you'll see that one, you'll have to think about it, and then decide that
you don't care at all. People who really get mad about the window
popping up (I don't think they are that much, I think ie always always
have this window...) will complain on irc, or look in the gconf
settings, where it is possible to disable it...
If we start to follow your reasoning, here are the prefs which need to
be added :
* a pref to remove the quit menu item
* a pref to always "save web page with content"
* a pref to remove the "helper app chooser" except if gnome-vfs couldn't
find an helper app
* and obviously a pref to hide the autocompletion prefs from the ui
Hmm, don't you think that if we go that road, the pref dialog will
become a little crowded ?
So let's decide on a good enough default for 99% of the users of galeon
(once again, I think tko suggestion would be a sensible default). And
please stop being childish by totally refusing to consider anything but
people saying 'oh yeah, you are right great galeon hacker, galeon needs
that pref which you'll be one of the few to use'. Think a little, this
popup window which annoys you so much is easy to remove, most people out
there don't seem to care that much about it, and think a little about
the others, galeon (and open source software in general) goal is not to
develop a custom browser for philipl, it is to develop a browser which
others will be able to freely use .
