Galeon uses GConf for preferences. Preferences are supposed to be instant-apply, i.e. they take effect immediately. That's why there is just a close button. If the preferences aren't automatically saved on your system, chances are high you have a problem with GConf. http://galeon.sourceforge.net/support/answers.php?faq=gconf-lose-prefs Sorry I can't help you more.
