TTF fonts in ~/.fonts in Galeon

I installed the Microsoft core fonts in my ~/.fonts directory, however,
I do not see these as options in Galeon in the Render->Fonts/Colors
regardless
of how I set the filters. These fonts are accessible in Gnome (Gnome menu ->
Preferences->Font), but not in Galeon. (I have restarted since installation
BTW)

Is this a problem with True Type Fonts in Galeon, or a problem with my
placing fonts in the ~/.fonts directory, or something entirely different?
