I've now been able to confirm this problem. 
Using a fresh user account, go to news.bbc.co.uk. Set the cookie (are
you in the uk question). close galeon. open galeon. cookie not
remembered. Mozilla-snapshot *does* remember the cookie. I'm CCing this
message to the galeon list to see if anyone there has encountered this
problem
