All you say is very true of course, it doesn't make sense maintaining mime handling more than a few places, and it doesn't make sense wasting time reimplementing it all the time. I do find it a bit strange though, that Gnome chose to reimplement the wheel (a.k.a. mailcap) and thus make sure that you _have_ to maintain these settings twice, once for gnome apps, and then again for all other apps... My old netscape handler settings were working just fine, _and_ could be shared by mutt...
