Mmmmph.  I switched to Linux because, while it wasn't like Windows,
and I had to learn new stuff, what I had to learn made sense rather
than trying to be a dumb Windows clone.  Linux will never be as good
at being Windows as Windows is, so it should try to be better.  But
this is something I should take up with the Gnome people.  Just
venting.  Sorry.

That sounds reasonable, sort of, except in my case (I need to go
through a proxy server to access the school library so I can download
copyrighted papers, but I don't want my pop3 settings to go through
the same proxy, for example; I wonder if you could fit a proxy port
chooser into a panel applet).  Actually, if I can make a case for HTTP
connections to be sent through the proxy, and Gnome lets you set
Galeon to be the default utility for making HTTP connections, then
there's a very strong case for letting Galeon toggle HTTP proxy
settings.  And besides, it's in the Settings menu, but just hard to
get to.

Patch thy mother!  IT WAS ALREADY THERE!  It was part of why I
switched to Galeon in the first place.  Now it's gone, for no reason.
I'm not going to submit a patch for something that was already there!

Wrong.  Someone cared enough to implement it, and it worked great, and
now it's gone!  Of course, lots of stuff has been redone so perhaps it
would have cost time to keep this there.  Whatever.  It was a nice
touch, but I understand resource allocation too.

Good idea, but not to re-implement things that someone already did a
good job on.  And I have a pet project involving mutt, but perhaps
when that's done...

Oh, and by the way, is it my imagination, or is 1.3.4 much much slower
than 1.2.x?
