If it's not already in the works, I'd like to ask for the return of the
Clear Location toolbar widgit which was present in galeon for gnome 1. I
work on the Internet a lot, and galeon is my favorite browser. Efficiency of
motion is important to me, and mouse actions are especially efficient.
Switching back and forth between the mouse and the keyboard is the _least_
efficient, motion-wise.
Previously, to go to a new website, given that the URL is displayed in
another document in another window:
1. Hi-lite the URL in the document to get it into the X clipboard
2. Click on a portion of the galeon window to make it the active app
3. Click the Clear Location button to clear the location text box
4. Middle-click in the location window to paste the new URL
5. Click the Go button
A similar action can still be accomplished, however it requires more steps
and also that one's default page be blank.
Steps are now as follows:
1. Hi-lite the URL in the document to get it into the X clipboard
2. Click on a portion of the galeon window to make it the active app
3. Right-click on the 'New' widgit
4. Left-click on 'New Tab' from the popup menu
5. Middle-click in the location window to paste the new URL
6. Click the Go button
7. Click on the "X" on the tab to dismiss it when done (otherwise
tabs accumulate)
This requires two steps more than previously, and also requires that galeon
be set to bring up new pages blank rather than displaying My Portal, which
I'd prefer.
All of these actions are done simply with my right hand on the mouse, never
switching to my keyboard, which is the way it should be. If I use a
non-blank default page, then I have to use the keyboard to delete the
contents of the location box which requires the keyboard. If I hi-light the
contents of the location box and press the delete key I've lost the contents
of my X clipboard.
