I happily withdraw this request! Adam Lopresto kindly pointed out to me how the middle mouse button can be used to open a new location _without_ messing with the location text entry field at all! This is very convenient - fewer keystrokes than before altogether. He also mentioned mouse gestures, which I'd never explored at all, and which look as if they'll be extremely convenient, although it's a bit confusing as to which mouse gestures are implemented natively by galeon and which by javascript.
