removing the close buttom from tabs and making tabs smaller

I want to remove the close button from tabs and close them by doing a
right click and selecting close from the popup menu.
(I can't find the code to remove that button, maybe I just don't know
how GtkNotepad works)
I'd also like the possibility to make tabs shorter to be able to put
all the tabs in the same view and don't have to click on the scroll
buttons
