If "Galeon from Sid" and "Galeon from Sarge/Etch" are the same version,
it's possible that they use a different library to load/show images.

Alas I don't know which of the libraries could be the culprit there.

http://www.reptilienkosmos.de/banner/468x60.gif works fine here on
Gentoo with Galeon 1.3.21 (regardless whether I turn animations on or
off).
