I think there are few things more obstrusive that a menu entry, esp if
it's a dup of another part of the interface.

What is geeky in a sidebar ?

What I dont like of it is the partial redundance with bookmarks/history
dialogs but that's something different ...
Also consider that a single checkbox, that isnt in any way going to
confuse the user (at least not much like a technical item.), with an
immediately visible effect, give access to several functionalities.
And, again, there is just one way to show the sidebar. You want to have
two to enable javscript.
Would I figth to keep sidebar support ? Nope.
Would I figth to remove it ? Neither.
