thoughts on Galeon2

hey all

I'm a bit of a galeon addict and have been following galeon2
developement from a distance, happy in the assumption that the missing
features were just under developement ;) Recently i found out otherwise.

I will now dispense my limited wizdom. lol


Tabs ----------------------------------------------
1. I was recently delighted to find that i can once again drag and drop
tabs to re-order them. This is a much needed feature. But now I think
that the tab menu is obsolete and should be removed. Using the mouse is
the right way to move tabs and there doesnt need to be a menu as well -
it's an unneeded complication to the UI IMHO. 

2. The ability to detach a tab to create a new window is IMHO a very
important feature of any MDI. Gedit has it so the code is already there
, whether it is in gtk or in gedit. But to me that fact that is in gedit
means that it is less likely to be a messy hack.

3. We do NOT need the ability to move tabs between windows IMHO - this
is just going to fud up the UI. And there would be nowhere for it to go
once the tabs menu is gone ;) Unless of corse someone wants to implement
drag and drop of tabs but i wouldnt be too pushed on that idea.



Settings menu ------------------------------------------

The way I see it there are two viable non-forking solutions to the
settings meni issue. Either way Preferences should definately stay in
Edit -> It just makes so much sense: "Edit Preferences".

1. Add the most used toggles to the tools menu like this:

	Tools
	------------
	History
	Personal Data Manager
	------------
	Java Console
	Javascript Console
	------------
	Disable Javascript
	Disable Java
	Disable Images
	Disable Popups

All the disable items would be those nice gtk menu items that have a
tick beside them when theya are being used.

2. Add a 'mode' gconf entry that will toggle between advanced and
simple. Choose a person or group of people to maintain each UI - one
person should not try to do both for reasons of motivation mentioned by
Havoc.

Havoc mentioned that this might not be a good idea because the switch to
advanced mode toogle would be visible thus complicating simple mode -
gconf would over-ride this.

Personally i think that this would be a bit of a cop out but should be
concidered before a fork.

I'm sure that there is a solution to this problem to be found - but it
certainly isn't to just stick the old settings menu back in. The
'features' provided by the old settings menu should be integrated into
the current ui and menu structure.

Other than that, excellent work lads(and lasses if there be any here).
I think that I'll hang around on this list for a while and see if i can
make myself at all useful.
