help please

to anyone who is kind enough to help me or give me pointers,

i am an undergraduate student at UCB and i m trying to hack any browser so 
that i can somehow feed url into the browser (automatically, of course) and 
record the time it takes to load such url.  this is for a research project in 
UCB, and i have spent quite a few hrs trying to hack mozilla.  of course, 
mozilla embedds itself with javascript, COM, and the gecko engine.  i wish to 
hack the engine such that i can record the time (perhaps in the throbber) and 
then i can also feed the url into the browser synchronously.  however, in 
mozilla, the throbber is powered by javascript (or so i thought) and i cant 
write the duration time to file (since javascript does not support it).  also 
feeding url into mozilla synchronously is a problem (unless i write a new DOM 
and implement this in the javascript).  i looked around the web and i found 
that galeon is a browser who also uses gecko engine.  if possible, can anyone 
tell me if galeon is able to be hacked in such a way so that i can implement 
my research (without tearing up the whole code base).
