I kept both this and saving on desktop closing. A more friendly dialog
would be too.

Yeah this is definately a bookmarks like use. I guess there is a way to
avoid the my portal problem.

Two questions about this.

Why you feel this would not be covered by bookmarks. Maybe because you
lose Tab/Windows groups ?
Why gnome session management doesnt work for this ? Do you close galeon
to come to it later also while keeping gnome open ? Why so ?

(These are just questions. If someone is about to start a flame about
user freedom please avoid it ;))

In general I dont feel the functionality confusing or technical. But the
menu label is really not clear IHMO. 
There are other small things I dont like about it:
- There is no indication of what is going to happen next time you open
the browser.
- Session is really something desktop wide. Every app should be
"freezable" if such a functionality is necessary.
