thank you, icecube, for that subject line

all right, this is plain, jack crazy!!

anybody know how to change the link color in galeon 1.3, henceforth
known as "g3"?

after visiting the galeon faq.html, where it tells you how to edit mime
types:

-------------------------------------
...
25. Q: I've configured MIME type X to be handled with application Y,
but it's
being handled by Z instead, or multiple instances of the helper
application are being started.

A: A likely cause for this is an errant Mozilla preference.

Exit Galeon and open ~/.galeon/mozilla/galeon/prefs.js in your favorite
text editor,

and look for a line that tells Mozilla how to handle the problematic
MIME
type. If you find such a line, delete it and save the file. After doing
this, the MIME type should be handled correctly in Galeon.
...

---------------------------------------

so, i visited said file with g3 and:

---------------------------------------
# Mozilla User Preferences

/* Do not edit this file.
 *
 * If you make changes to this file while the browser is running,
 * the changes will be overwritten when the browser exits.
 *
 * To make a manual change to preferences, you can visit the URL about:config
 * For more information, see http://www.mozilla.org/unix/customizing.html#prefs
 */

user_pref("browser.anchor_color", "#0000FF");
user_pref("browser.cache.disk.capacity", 102400);
user_pref("browser.download.dir", "~");
user_pref("browser.visited_color", "#FF0000");
user_pref("capability.policy.default.checkloaduri.enabled", "noAccess");
...
-------------------------------------

1) notice the "open in your favorite text editor" line in the faq
2) notice the 2nd line of mozilla user preferences
	"Do not edit this file"

3)   notice:  user_pref("browser.anchor_color", "#0000FF");

so, i go to galeon, open the about:config page, and set my color,
to #00FF00, since i do not know the hex code for "forest green"

anybody know that, offhand?

i think this is not a good user interface choice. this is an insane
amount of effort to change something fundamental in web browsing.

just think about the number of steps this took, not to mention having to
find it in the first place.

what is going on? i gave g3 the benefit of doubt, and installed 1.3.20
and got my icons back on the toolbar, thank you for the bug fix.
and it does load faster than mozilla or netscape.

my post before this was supposed to go to the list, but i accidently sent it
only to adam, because i hit reply, so i remailed it to the list, which is the
reason this comes minutes after, even though i wrote the other one 2 days ago.

am i out of line here?

thanks,
philip dahlquist
