Ah, a promising hint to solve a problem that I've encountered many times (namely, figuring out mime types). Unfortunately, on my (debian) system, gnomevfs-info responds with Error: Invalid URI whenever I type gnomevfs-info filename I must be doing something silly, but I have no idea what, since "man gnomevfs-info" returns empty-handed.
