I used to use Privoxy, but I found that it was slowing me down rather than 
speeding me up. A simpler and faster solution is to use a hosts file:

  http://remember.mine.nu/
  http://www.mvps.org/winhelp2002/hosts.htm
  http://www.accs-net.com/hosts/hostsforlinux.html

plus a CSS file:

  http://www.mozilla.org/support/firefox/adblock
  http://www.gozer.org/mozilla/ad_blocking/
