printer prints postscript literally

When I print a web page displayed in a browser, I get many pages of
the literal postscript file contents.

Otherwise, printing goes OK (emacs postscript print buffer, dvips,
escript <file>, gnumeric pages, scribus). Because of the stepping
problem, I'm using enscript, which converts my ascii text to
postscript and sends it to the printer. If I try lpr as the printer
with galeon, the printer data and error light blinks briefly, but
nothing prints. The lpq command suggests no job went to the queue.

I'm running debian sarge with the 2.6.8-1 kernel, and have a Lexmark
laser printer. Here's my printcap:

lp|Generic dot-matrix printer entry:\
        :lp=/dev/usb/lp0:\
        :sd=/var/spool/lpd/lp:\
        :af=/var/log/lp-acct:\
        :lf=/var/log/lp-errs:\
        :pl#66:\
        :pw#80:\
        :pc#150:\
        :mx#0:\
        :sh:

There's nothing in lpr.log or lp.errs.
