If you have a recent galeon/mozilla then you probably do have typeahead.
It is for searching the current webpage for text.  If you load up a
page, press / then start to type a word it will find it and highlight it
on the page - just like if you go to Edit > Find.  Press CTRL+G to find
the next matching word.

If you don't press / before typing the word then only links will be
matched.
