Right, the error pages only work correctly on mozilla >= 1.8 and firefox
>= 1.5. I don't know why you are seeing the behaviour though, the
preference that enables them should be off by default.

Your best bet is to turn off the preference (go to about:config and
change browser.xul.error_pages.enabled to false).
