I've tried two other migration routes: Kazehakase and Firefox with some
extensions that implement functionality that I miss from Galeon.

Kazehakase ( http://kazehakase.sourceforge.jp ) is a a GTK2 browser that
uses the Gecko engine, just like Galeon/Epiphany but without the GNOME
dependencies. Once you've switched to advanced mode configuration you'll
have *a lot* of tweaks available. I've managed to configure it like
Galeon in almost every way. Last build I've check was not quite as
stable as Galeon (I've used 0.3.4 for some months on Debian Sarge), but
it was very usable. The developers want to keep Kazehakase's interface
independent from the HTML rendering engine. I've tried to make it work
with gtk-webcore, the GTK2 port of KHTML, it was possible, but
completely unusable.

Firefox with adblock, all-in-one gestures, permit cookies, no squint,
tab mix plus, switchproxy tool and some other extras (I recommend
noscript, fasterfox and videodownloader) can be configured to act very
much like Galeon and makes for an excellent choice in terms of
flexibility and power. However, the memory usage goes through the roof
with many tabs open and its XUL interface is noticeable slower than a
GTK2 one (notice the redrawing times when switching to a workspace with
Firefox).
