Hey gang, So, I've been working on getting HTML5 video into Gallery. The first step is integrating HTML5 Flowplayer alongside the Flash Flowplayer, and am nearly done with the integration (and getting all of the auto-resize stuff back and working)... so what better time to pause and reconsider the choice of player? :-) My original intention was to keep the old Flowplayer for flv and f4v, then use the new one for mp4, webm, and ogv. Here's what I've learned from this: - the flash fallback mode of HTML5 Flowplayer is more capable than I thought, and can also play flv and f4v. This removes the need for the old Flowplayer altogether - nice! - the new Flowplayer is branded, but it looks like we could get a $995 unlimited license and redistribute it along with Gallery (it's targeted directly at CMS developers). - I'm still having a couple issues ensuring cross-browser happiness with the Flash fallback mode. - the player does not support audio. I've seen quite a few ask for this, and I'm not saying we should necessarily build it into the core, but having an audio-capable player would certainly help a contrib module. All this makes me wonder if we shouldn't look at a different player instead. The best comparison I've seen is here: http://praegnanz.de/html5video/ One that's really caught my eye is here: http://mediaelementjs.com/ Unlike Flowplayer, it can do audio and has no branding... Before diving into possible alternatives, anyone have any thoughts or previous experiences?
