Multi-page numbered footer links issue

Dear fellows,

we're using HTDIG, version 3.1.6 (due to restrictions of our
infra-structure) and we're facing the following problem.

Considering 3 base pages (indexes), with about 2,000 "son" pages linked to
each of them, being all 6,003 pages in the very same directory.

Our indexing process considers all the 6,003 pages (htdig -h 6
base_page_name).

Using the "restrict" field, every time we indicate the 2,001 URLs
(considering a base page and it's 2,000 "sons") we get a correct first
answers links' page, but the numbered links, presented via the footer.html
template ($PAGELIST variable), has the htsearch command that point to the
following answers pages not attached to it.

We realized that it has to do with the length of the document.write
command, in the footer.html file (2,001 URLs makes a very big string).

Is there any solution we can use, like indicating only the base page in the
"restrict" field, to get the search made on all the "son" pages, thus
reducing the length of the document.wirte command and getting the numbered
links operational?

Is there any parameter we can pass to htsearch, in order to indicate we
want a recursive approach (the same way we indicate with the -h 6, in the
htdig command), from the base page to it's "sons"?

Any other suggestion (upgrading the HTDIG, unfortunately, is not an option,
right now)?

Thank you, for your attention on this matter.

Best regards,
