Indexing HTML comments

Installed 3.2.0b6 after running 3.1.6 since 2002 and found that HTML comments are now getting indexed (and, so, appearing in results).

I don't think that the previous version indexed text such as:

  <!-- This Page Stinks -->

Couldn't find a mention of this is the archives. Anyone else experience this? These are pages that have checked out in W3C's XHTML validator, so I'm pretty sure  the comment tags are valid.
