htDig returning zero or not running

Hi everyone,

first of all, please excuse me if this is not the place to post this. 
First time user here.

We have been running htDig for almost a year with no issues but lately we 
have all results set to zero (No documents found)
or sometimes we get this:

ht://Dig error
htsearch detected an error. Please report this to the webmaster of this 
site by sending an e-mail to: root@localhost The error message is:
Unable to read word database file '/var/lib/htdig/db.words.db'
Did you run htdig?

I've been checking all the scripts and config files and couldn't find 
anything wrong at first sight.
As I was not who implemented htDig in the company. any suggestion where 
can I start looking for a fix or a reason for the error?
