I also took Charlie's files, and started work on some DocBook conversion
for the Tidy docs - alas I never found time to complete the job.

I would agree about DocBook. Not that we need it in this case, but I looked
at various conversion utilities to/from DocBook for various projects I am
working on. Here is one I used :

We currently use Doxygen for the API documentation.
