State of the project?

I just started looking at this project because my HTML&XHTML book suggests
it.
I don't want to criticise, but I'm wondering about the state of the
project. I cannot
find an RPM for it newer than 2003. The version I can get for Ubuntu and
Gentoo
are both vintage 2005. The project docs say there have been a number of bug
fixes and enhancements since then. But it errors out on make with Fedora
Core 7,
where I really want to use it (see bugs list).

The bugs list does not seem to have any resolutions, and there are no really
recent code contributions. The last thing I see on the CVS list asserts
that the
current tree is "as good as it gets", but I wonder. This looks a lot like
moribund
code, which would be a shame if true because it's such a neat product.

Can someone enlighten me?
