It would then seem best to use Tidy only on the central repository as
action on a checkin, rather than having individual users use it. The
Tidy project does not control any of the Tidy packages distributed by
third parties, and they may have conflicting maintenance policies. For
example, they may only apply security patches but not patches for new
features, in some of their distributions.

Besides, there should not be many differences between versions, if you
use the same configuration settings. Perhaps if you are mixing a 1999
version and a 2004 version and a 2009 version, then maybe, but then it
is unlikely that working with redistributors would help. Perhaps you
can give some examples of substantial changes between, say, various
2008 builds? They may be the result of bugs that slipped past by us.
