What I plan on doing is looking whether there is enough actual interest
in this that some people go check out the code apply the patch and then
do some testing and report their findings. If there is, I will do some
testing of my own and investigate how to address any issues that come up
and then I'll have a better idea of whether this should be a branch, or
is already ready for "release" (in as much as any commit to the mainline
is a release under our release model), or perhaps that there are issues
I missed that would make adequate support much harder than I thought in
which case I would probably abandon this for now. If there is no such
interest, I probably won't work on this at all until I really need this
functionality if that ever happens.
