Hello,

First of all wasn’t there a BBS or message board for HTML Tidy? Is there one for questions about HTML coding from the W3?

I was re-reading the HTML Reference Library when I realized that the characters entities were only to enable the characters to be entered into the HTML document, not to be read by the browsers. I gather that the only characters that actually need to be encoded are the ampersand, greater than, less than, and the straight quotes. The only reason I would need to use the other entities is if there were no other way to enter the character. However, I cannot find a way to set Tidy to prevent it from converting the characters to entities. The closest that I get will either leave everything alone except that it converts the left and right single and double quotes to straight double and single quotes or it will convert everything to character entities and convert the curved quotes to straight quotes. Is there any way to turn off conversion?

Is there anyway to get Tidy to leave the curved quotes alone?

Has anyone come up with an updated version of the HTML Reference Library that refers to the latest W3 standards?

One last thing, since the HTMLib is outdated, what are the recommended alternatives to using META tags?

Later,

Rod Lockwood
