Convert html-entitites / numeric entities to unicode characters?

I know that I can convert i.e. the letter æ (ae) to the html entity
"&aelig;" or the numeric entity "&#230;".
But is it possible to use Tidy to convert the other way around? From
"&aelig;" to æ ? Or is this task better handeled better by other
command line tools?
