Ha, silly me.

I was telling HttpUnit to connect to where the file is, when in fact I
needed to add the 'faces' portion to the URL...

All works as expected, thanks a ton Graeme.

I thought it might be a missing locale, not being supplied in the
request header, but I guess not.

Are you sure you're calling the faces servlet correctly?

Does testfaces1.jsp do a forward to the faces page?
