The advantage of HttpUnit for performance testing is that it behaves a 
lot like a browser. That allows you to test complex, stateful behavior 
and still have reasonably easy to read tests (unlike record-and-playback 
approaches). However, that advantage comes at a price; compared with 
dumber tools like Apache's "ab" tool, you need more hardware to generate 
high levels of load.

Personally, I use both approaches depending on circumstance and need.
