Current Status of JavaScript support?

Some friends are about to get into testing their web app and asked me
for advice. Last I looked at HttpUnit, it didn't really seem suitable
for testing modern web applications; the AJAX-driven advance of
JavaScript usage made a lot of things hard to test.

Is that the current state of things? I know there was some discussion of
forking and/or merging improved JavaScript support, but I'm not sure how
that turned out.

Thanks,

William
