I think the message:

is already pretty good. Mentioning it in the release notes with the option
of downgrading should help those who run in trouble. I think the major
point is that there is still 1.6.2 available for those who don't like 1.7.

We'll never be able to be perfect - IMHO it's a matter of how many users
are happy with the result - and that we'll only know if we offer 1.7 for
feedback.
