The slowness seems to occur when:

Database products MAP comment ru_RU rcomment

is added to the catalog.cfg.  products is a mysql table and has about
4000 records.

Tried:

Database products ru_RU rproducts

hoping that using a different table instead of looking for different
columns would be faster but Shadow doesn't make the switch
