[L] tag problems

I use some custom UI pages.
In the pages I use the [L] tag on some vars:
For example: [L][sql-param status][/L] - not working
If I just put the result of the variable as a text in a tag:
For example: [L]pending[/L] - working OK get translated .
 
Any idea?
