Hi all,

I just wanted to feel the joy of text browsing; after a brief and intense
experience with Lynx I've found Links and I love it so much that I decided
to look up the mailing list and... here I am.

I'm using links2.1pre14 on OS/2 (both in text and PM modes), and I'll
probably use it on DOS/Win32 soon.

As a new user I don't know how active Links development is, etc. so please
cope with me a little while. After some hours of use I've found some bugs
I'd like to report. Oddly enough most of these are not present in Lynx but
that is way too unusable for me so I thought I better try to get them fixed
in links.

Severe bugs:
-NLS characters are not displayed correctly when not in the HTML main flow
(examples: alt or title attributes, names for submit buttons, etc).
-Javascript not fully working. My example is at
http://www.netropolis-si.com/ebook/ (despite the initial page everything is
in English) I know "InnerHTML" is not 100% DOM, and that CSSs are not
suported (yet?) but the javascript parser blows on a pretty conventional
statement so I felt it should be reported.

Less severe bugs:
-Separate named rendering windows created through <a href="..."
target="name"> links are not fully respected. I.e. you cannot update a
secondary terminal window following links tailored for it; instead, a new
window is created always. Despite usability related considerations I think
there should be a full implementation or none at all.
-The status line showing link targets et al should be wrapped if wider than
terminal window (I like using a 30x40 terminal to emulate cell phone
navigation etc.
-Some unicode characters are not displayed correctly in graphics mode
(something like a big asterisk is displayed). Example: in the very same url
mentioned before, some Farsi script characters near the end. Those very same
characters are rendered correctly in Mozilla, in the same machine, OS, etc.

Feature requests:
-Status line should display title attributes (optionally at least) when
present as well as link targets.
-An option should be provided to allow to scroll rendered text through the
terminal window, instead of splitting it in n pages and 'jump' between them.
-DOS-like local URLs like D:\ should be automatically converted to
file:///D:/ instead of rejected. Interestingly enough, file:///D:\ is
accepted...
-An updated 'how to' procedure to get text rendered with colors in text mode
(the 0.82 manual is too outdated) .

So, if there are any developers out there, let me know what you think.

Regards,
Alfredo.
