[links] javascript support in links, what does it mean?

I have compiled and built links from the links-2.1pre15.tar.gz
download, it went very smoothly I have to say, not a glitch.
However I'm a little confused by javascript support in links. I've
built links with no X/Graphics support because I'm using it via an ssh
link in an rxvt (xterm) window.
When it gets to javascript links in pages that I browse it just
displays 'javascript:;' and nothing happens when I try to load the
link. If I use = to look at the code it looks like normal javascript,
like it's trying to open a new window.
Another place where it fails to do anything it displays "javascript:
newpage('absolute', 2)" (or some other page function).
Will javascript simply not work in text mode or is there something
wrong with my build/install of links?
