[links] characters garbled in xterm

I issue the command

# links -source wwwa.accuweather.com/adcbin/public/local_index_print.asp?zipcode=08544

and what is returned is garbled characters -- nothing legible at all.
This command was issued in Xterm(225), with default system UTF8
encoding, and unicode enabled for links.
