Yes, home brew was the other system I couldn't remember. Never tried it, because I was gunshy after getting my system hosed, and besides, I've been compiling from source so long, it was just more natural for me to continue doing so when I was using a mac. (currently only have a macbook circa 2007, so don't use OSX much these days), but I still absolutely love the os.
